Fanservice, tears, and screaming men: J-pop Idol Dance Competition Experience

Image
Hey everyone! This is my first blog post I've made since arriving to Japan. I'm surprised (and maybe a little disappointed?) because I planned on blogging way more. I think my videos are sufficient, but there are some experiences I couldn't properly vlog. Luckily I have my *cough*half-abandoned*cough* blog! One of the experiences I wish I could have vlogged properly was the J-Pop idol dance competition I participated in. It was unforgettable and an experience I didn't think I would have during my semester abroad. Some background information In Japan, joining clubs and circles in college is very important. The difference between clubs and circles is the level of dedication and time commitment one has to put forth. Clubs are more like sports teams whereas circles are more like social gatherings you can choose to go to whenever you want. I ended up finding the perfect group for me: a J-pop dance cover circle. In reality, it felt more like a club because of the ser...

I'm going to Japan!

Hey Everyone! I finally feel safe to announce that I will be studying abroad in Japan for 4 months for my spring semester of college! Despite working on this since fall semester and being accepted into the program during December of 2014, I've been reluctant to announce this because I was worried that something might happen that will prevent be from going. BUT, I got my flight ticket, my visa, and I leave in a week! It still feels....surreal LOL. This is something I've been day dreaming about ever since middle school so the thought of finally going to Tokyo is...surreal LOL. My biggest fear is that this will all go by so fast which is why I will be vlogging and working on several projects while I'm there! My vlogs are going to be uploaded every week, or two times a week. When I first get there, I'll definitely be uploading A LOT because everything will be new to me. As I get settled in, I imagine the vlogs being less frequent, however I imagine myself...

Kawaii Til We Die

Image
Hey everyone! I spent my Friday the 13th at Kawaii Til We Die dancing with my cover group FLA48! I only took three pictures from the evening, but my friend Matthew took a lot and he said it was okay to use his pictures for this blog post so all pictures here are courtesy of him :D 2015: YEAR OF THE SELFIE STICK. Kawaii Til We Die is a free 18+ event for fans of anime, video games, cosplay, kawaii stuff, and things of that sort.  I found out about this event during Megacon 2014 actually. I saw a flyer and I thought "OMG THIS IS WHERE I BELONG." Since then Kawaii Til We Die has been hosted several times before, but this was the first night I attended. The event started off with some J-pop music videos of Perfume, Kyary, and Capsule, while some people casually danced around. There was a bar LOL. At 9:00 O_Super performed. He rapped about things from anime and video games and it was pretty cool, but I couldn't really pay attention to his performance becau...

Holiday Matsuri 2014

This post was originally published on Jamuary 5th, 2014 on my weebly (cherrywallflower.weebly.com). However, I've edited this post on here to make it look like it was actually published on 1/5/15 for organizational purposes. I made convention blog posts in 2013 on this account, so to keep things consistent and convenient, I've moved posts from weebly to here. I edited a few things and added pictures which makes this just a liiitle bit different from my original weebly post. I've deleted the original post on my weebly to avoid redundancy.  Taken by our friend Andrew :D Holiday Matsuri this year was my favorite one yet! I was so exhausted when the weekend was over xD Since I got a lot of recordings of the weekend, I won't spend too much time here explaining what I did. I was able to complete my goal of getting a separate vlog for each day of the con :D This blog post will mainly be like a reflection post. To start with, this is Holiday Matsuri's 4th yea...
