Pre-MegaCon 2025: My plans & thoughts on the convention in the past

Image
Hello Blossoms and random internet passerbyers!  πŸŒΌπŸŒ»πŸŒ·πŸŒΈπŸŒΉπŸŒΊπŸ’ It's been YEARS since I've written a post about going to a convention, so I'm really happy to write these next few blog post entries about my experience at Megacon Orlando 2025. But before that, I want to provide some background information about my experience with this convention many years ago. Ah Megacon... (a prelude) Megacon was one of the very first few conventions I attended when I was 18. In fact, it was the 3rd convention I ever attended. The first Megacon I officially attended was in 2012, but I got my first taste of Megacon back around... 2007.  7th grade me! I didn't attend it myself, but I was at the Orange County Convention Center as an attendee for an international Taekwondo tournament to cheer on a family friend. As we walked around the convention center outside of the boundaries of the taekwondo tournament, I saw cosplayers live and in the flesh for the first time in my life! Y'see, ba...

Barely anyone is around for you, yet here you still are!

After all these years, you're still here... BLOGGER. A blogging site with barely any community and incredibly outdated themes.  And yet, Google still hasn't shut you down yet.  I have been itching to write and blog all of last year, but figuring out which platform to go on was keeping me stumped. I tried substack, but man, idk. I feel weird being on that platform knowing the owner's stances. It's not like his stances are any different from most social media site owners though lol. I tried writing on Tumblr, but Tumblr feels weird for personal blogging. It seems like it's great for image sharing and writing that isn't... personal blogging?  What do I mean by personal blogging? I mean, the ancient pastime of just writing about your life and something you experienced in a light-hearted way with images sprinkled throughout the text. Thanks to Instagram, TikTok, and other sites, you can just make a post with a picture and write a bit in the caption, which constitutes...

Happy 10 year anniversary of my blog?!

I think technically this began in 2013. But it feels so long ago. It was so long ago. So let's just say it's basically been 10 years since I started this LOL. That means 10 years of my online identity Cherry Wallflower. Although, I guess this online identity began in the late 2000s when I was on GaiaOnline and had "cherry wallflower" as my username xD My YouTube channel that I was active on during high school was called "eurazngal." I came up with the name because being white and Filipino means I have European and Asian ancestry and I liked "gal" because it didn't sound as "cheesy" to me as "girl" (plus I loved observing Japanese gyaru/GAL fashion, even though I never took part in it.) When I made my CherryWallflower TV channel in college, I brought that name back simply because I couldn't think of anything else for myself LOL. When I started doing live idol performance covers, I chose to go by Cherry because I did...

Fanservice, tears, and screaming men: J-pop Idol Dance Competition Experience

Image
Hey everyone! This is my first blog post I've made since arriving to Japan. I'm surprised (and maybe a little disappointed?) because I planned on blogging way more. I think my videos are sufficient, but there are some experiences I couldn't properly vlog. Luckily I have my *cough*half-abandoned*cough* blog! One of the experiences I wish I could have vlogged properly was the J-Pop idol dance competition I participated in. It was unforgettable and an experience I didn't think I would have during my semester abroad. Some background information In Japan, joining clubs and circles in college is very important. The difference between clubs and circles is the level of dedication and time commitment one has to put forth. Clubs are more like sports teams whereas circles are more like social gatherings you can choose to go to whenever you want. I ended up finding the perfect group for me: a J-pop dance cover circle. In reality, it felt more like a club because of the ser...

I'm going to Japan!

Hey Everyone! I finally feel safe to announce that I will be studying abroad in Japan for 4 months for my spring semester of college! Despite working on this since fall semester and being accepted into the program during December of 2014, I've been reluctant to announce this because I was worried that something might happen that will prevent be from going. BUT, I got my flight ticket, my visa, and I leave in a week! It still feels....surreal LOL. This is something I've been day dreaming about ever since middle school so the thought of finally going to Tokyo is...surreal LOL. My biggest fear is that this will all go by so fast which is why I will be vlogging and working on several projects while I'm there! My vlogs are going to be uploaded every week, or two times a week. When I first get there, I'll definitely be uploading A LOT because everything will be new to me. As I get settled in, I imagine the vlogs being less frequent, however I imagine myself...

Kawaii Til We Die

Image
Hey everyone! I spent my Friday the 13th at Kawaii Til We Die dancing with my cover group FLA48! I only took three pictures from the evening, but my friend Matthew took a lot and he said it was okay to use his pictures for this blog post so all pictures here are courtesy of him :D 2015: YEAR OF THE SELFIE STICK. Kawaii Til We Die is a free 18+ event for fans of anime, video games, cosplay, kawaii stuff, and things of that sort.  I found out about this event during Megacon 2014 actually. I saw a flyer and I thought "OMG THIS IS WHERE I BELONG." Since then Kawaii Til We Die has been hosted several times before, but this was the first night I attended. The event started off with some J-pop music videos of Perfume, Kyary, and Capsule, while some people casually danced around. There was a bar LOL. At 9:00 O_Super performed. He rapped about things from anime and video games and it was pretty cool, but I couldn't really pay attention to his performance becau...

Holiday Matsuri 2014

This post was originally published on Jamuary 5th, 2014 on my weebly (cherrywallflower.weebly.com). However, I've edited this post on here to make it look like it was actually published on 1/5/15 for organizational purposes. I made convention blog posts in 2013 on this account, so to keep things consistent and convenient, I've moved posts from weebly to here. I edited a few things and added pictures which makes this just a liiitle bit different from my original weebly post. I've deleted the original post on my weebly to avoid redundancy.  Taken by our friend Andrew :D Holiday Matsuri this year was my favorite one yet! I was so exhausted when the weekend was over xD Since I got a lot of recordings of the weekend, I won't spend too much time here explaining what I did. I was able to complete my goal of getting a separate vlog for each day of the con :D This blog post will mainly be like a reflection post. To start with, this is Holiday Matsuri's 4th yea...
